4 tips to begin vanlife
Often, we are asked how to begin. “I want to live vanlife but don’t know where to start” is a phrase we’ve heard so many times we can’t count.
The truth is there’s no right or wrong way. It’s up to you to figure out what you want and need. Vanlife is symbolic of our ability as human beings to write our story, to take action towards awakening our individual dreams, whatever they may be.
Once you’ve decided you want to go for it, here are three tips to guide your journey of self discovery. We hope they help you design your dream lifestyle.
Begin where you are. You have everything you need to live your dream now. Take a look at yourself. What are your passions? Skill sets? Desires? Strengths? Weaknesses? Vanlife can be part time or full time. You can explore an entire continent or live contentedly by a river forever. What do you want your vanlife to look and feel like?
Know your why. There’s no right or wrong reason to live vanlife. Just be very clear with yourself why you desire it and be open to your why changing. Because it may. Knowing your why will help you stay on track as work towards getting on the road. Knowing your why will help you make daily decisions that support your growth.
Explore your needs and wants. The simpler you can make your life before vanlife, the smoother the transition will be. Can you live with less stuff now? Can you trade stuff for experience now? Really look at what surrounds you. What elevates your mood? What is just taking up space and cluttering your mind?
Make a plan. Your plan will be tailored to you and based on your why. Maybe it includes a plan for working on the road, or saving up money before hitting the road so that you don’t have to work and can enjoy pursuing leisure. In your plan, break down the target goals into daily tasks. Create a routine to work towards your goal every single day. Even if for only 15 minutes. Pick a date to hit the road and stick to it.
